Clinics & Services

GP Clinics

GP Surgeries: Run both in mornings and afternoons. The appointments comprise a mixture of “on-the-day” appointments (bookable only after 8am on the same day), advance pre-bookable appointments (bookable at any point, usually up to 8 weeks in advance), and internet bookable appointments (available to prebook for patients who have registered for Patient Access; please ask at reception). Our reception staff may ask, confidentially, for some more details when a patient requests an appointment, particularly if none are available. They are trained to do so and the information is incredibly useful to the GPs who can easily ensure patients with more serious symptoms are seen quickly. We recognise that some conditions are sensitive and you may feel embarrassed to discuss details with our reception staff. Please know that any information is handled with the strictest confidence and discretion; if you feel uncomfortable you may decline but please be aware this may affect the priority placed on triaging your call.

Extended Hours:  These take place on  select days between the hours of 6pm-7pm. Whilst available for any patient of the Practice, we hope that these will be utilised ideally by those patients in full-time employment who might otherwise struggle to take time off. These appointments are also bookable in advance. In order to be fair to all, the Practice reserves the right to decline future extended hours clinic appointments to those patients who have failed to attend previous appointments without adequate notice.

Practice Nurse Clinics

Asthma/COPD/Diabetes/Heart Disease/Stroke/Atrial Fibrillation and other manageable chronic diseases and conditions are dealt with by our two experienced Practice Nurses.  Patients who need seen at these clinics are contacted by the Practice and offered an appointment, but patients can also book themselves for an appointment. All Practice Nurse appointments are pre-bookable.

Health Care Assistant Clinics

Our Health Care Assistant can undertake blood pressure measurements, take blood, administer certain injections and perform new-patient assessments. Patients can prebook these appointments. We would respectfully ask that patients avoid booking themselves for blood tests without speaking with a Practice Nurse or GP first.

Physiotherapist clinics

On several days throughout the week our two extended-scope Physiotherapists are able to see patients in a one-stop shop appointment which aims to assess, diagnose and treat many musculoskeletal problems. Appointments are twice as long as GP appointments allowing a more detailed assessment of patients and targeted advice. Our Physiotherapists may then discuss more complex patients with a GP with a view to organising further medical investigations as necessary or for appropriate prescriptions such as painkillers.

Ante-natal Clinic

Mondays 1pm – 3pm.  The clinic is staffed by our local midwives.  Please note newly pregnant women should contact the Greater Glasgow & Clyde telephone central booking service for ante-natal care in the first instance. Please click here for details.

Family Planning

Dr Margaret Thompson undertakes a family planning clinic on select Wednesday mornings. Appointments can be booked for intra-uterine coil insertions, removals, and for Nexplanon™ insertions and removals. Women attending this clinic for the first time should already have discussed contraception with a GP prior to booking the clinic appointment, and in the case of Nexplanon™ should ensure that they have collected and filled a prescription for this before attending the clinic. There are a limited number of appointments available, and as many as three regular GP appointments can be undertaken in the time it takes to see one family planning patient so we ask that you provide adequate notice in the event you have to cancel or re-arrange. Alternative dedicated services for family planning are available through Sandyford Clinic.
